MP reveals reasons for postponing parliament session until tomorrow

MP Ali Al-Haidari confirmed on Sunday that differences between parliamentary blocs continue over controversial laws that were scheduled to be voted on in today’s session, which was postponed until Monday.
Al-Haidari said: “The session was postponed after extensive discussions between the parliamentary blocs that lasted for more than 5 hours, and the session was adjourned due to the failure to reach a final agreement on the laws.”
He pointed out that “the session was postponed to put the final touches on the agreement between the parliamentary blocs for the purpose of proceeding with voting on the laws,” noting that “some blocs refuse to include terrorists, normalizers, or other categories in the general amnesty law,” noting that “we believe that the personal status law will pass comfortably.”
He explained, "The draft law to return properties to their owners included in some decisions of the (dissolved) Revolutionary Command Council, if no agreement is reached, especially between the components of Kirkuk, it will not pass."
He continued, "We will meet in tomorrow's session after the laws are further matured, so that the session will be calm and voting on the laws will be achieved."
The House of Representatives had postponed its session, which was scheduled to be held today, Sunday, until tomorrow, Monday, due to the continuing differences between the parliamentary blocs over controversial laws.
The postponed session was preceded by verbal altercations between representatives in the parliament cafeteria due to the controversial laws included in the session’s agenda, most notably: the draft law amending the second amendment to the General Amnesty Law No. (27) of 2016, voting on the proposed amendment to the Personal Status Law (188) of 1959, and the draft law to return properties to their owners covered by some decisions of the (dissolved) Revolutionary Command Council.
