Parliament session suspended.. MP explains the reason for not reaching political understandings

Independent MP Kazem Al-Fayyadh revealed, today, Sunday (December 1, 2024), the reason for the suspension of the House of Representatives session until now, after it was postponed for more than three hours due to the lack of a legal quorum .
Al-Fayadh told Baghdad Today, "The parliament session has not been held yet due to the lack of a political agreement to pass the controversial laws. The meetings are ongoing and continuous between the blocs and parties with the aim of reaching understandings, but there is no understanding, and this is what led to breaking the legal quorum to hold the session ."
Al-Fayadh added, "Including such controversial laws without prior agreement between the blocs and parties always leads to the failure of holding sessions, and for this reason we believe that today's session will not be held, and if it is held, those laws will be removed from the agenda and postponed, as has happened several times before ."
The session was delayed for hours due to ongoing discussions on some laws scheduled to be voted on in today's session, including personal status and amending the general amnesty law .
The session’s agenda includes discussion and voting on paragraphs of a number of important laws, most notably: the draft law amending the second amendment to the General Amnesty Law No. (27) of 2016, voting on the proposed amendment to the Personal Status Law (188) of 1959, and the draft law to return real estate to its owners covered by some decisions of the (dissolved) Revolutionary Command Council .
