The Federal Ministry of Water Resources revealed a future plan for sustainable groundwater management that includes the construction of (30) dams for water harvesting.
According to the Director General of the General Authority for Groundwater in the Ministry, Maitham Ali, "his department has prepared a future plan concerned with sustainable groundwater management, especially in desert areas that are difficult to compensate for except through rain."
He explained that "the plan includes the construction of a number of water harvesting dams during the coming year after completing their studies and designs," noting that "suitable sites have been selected for them."
He announced that "the total number of small water harvesting dams currently ready for implementation has reached (30) dams that will be implemented on the western and eastern sides, in addition to the southern and northern deserts, in addition to the valleys of Samawah, Najaf, Ramadi and Hauran, specifying the capacity of the dams that are planned to be built in the future within them at five million to (300) million cubic meters for each of them."
