Smart coating to protect oil pipes

A research team specialized in polymer engineering and petrochemical industries within the College of Materials Engineering at the University of Babylon succeeded in inventing a smart coating to protect oil and gas pipelines from corrosion problems that cause significant environmental and material losses.
Researcher Dr. Salsabil Karim Al-Janabi said in an interview with Al-Sabah: The work team succeeded in manufacturing a coating layer of (epoxy) with high adhesion strength and is also characterized by high resistance to breakage, thus providing the necessary protection from corrosion to an excellent extent, noting that even if a break occurs in the coating layer, it has been made self-healing and at the lowest cost. She
explained that the coating is characterized by its cheap cost compared to its imported counterpart, which is very expensive, stressing that the transport pipelines will be protected from the problem of leakage, which spares oil companies huge losses and prevents the environmental pollution resulting from it.
