The Ministries of Electricity and Oil are coordinating to compensate for the shortage in the supply of Iranian gas, which has affected the operation of generating stations and reduced the hours of electricity supply.
The official spokesman for the Ministry of Electricity, Ahmed Moussa, told Al-Sabah: There is a decline in the supply of Iranian gas used to operate power plants by about 10 million meters.

He added that this matter affected the hours of preparation during the past period, and limited the work of a number of generating units, in addition to the shutdown of some stations.
Moussa stressed that the ministry is working to address the gas shortage and carry out some maintenance in conjunction with a drop in temperatures, and thus work on programming the power stations, completing maintenance, and addressing the bottlenecks observed by the technical and engineering teams and maintenance teams on the electrical power systems in most areas of the country.
He added that work is underway to expand and modernize transmission lines and transformer stations to address the shortage in supply hours in some areas. This comes as part of a proactive plan to keep pace with the peak winter loads.
Moussa pointed out that the Cabinet's directives will be implemented to compensate for the lost or imported gas and fuel from the Iranian side when the winter loads peak through coordination with the Ministry of Oil, noting that the Ministry of Electricity controls the operation of the generation and distribution stations through its proactive plan that it implements within the specific mechanisms for the continuity of supplying all areas of the country with electrical energy.
On Sunday, November 24, the Ministry of Electricity announced that the Iranian gas supplies had been completely halted for maintenance purposes for 15 days to Baghdad, the central governorates, and the Middle Euphrates, which caused the national electricity system to lose 5,500 megawatts.
