MP for the State of Law Coalition, Jawad Al-Ghazali, commented on hosting Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani and three of his ministers in a “secret” session of the House of Representatives.
Al-Ghazali said, “Hosting the Prime Minister was successful and put the dots on the letters regarding some topics, especially the events in Syria and the budget law,” noting that “Al-Sudani spoke about securing the borders and the deployment and readiness of military units from the security services and the Popular Mobilization Forces.”
Regarding sending units of the Iraqi army to Syria, Al-Azali confirmed that “Al-Sudani did not address this matter during the session, and that the Syrian government did not request this from Iraq, and if it requested it, Iraq would respond to it.”
Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani arrived today at the House of Representatives building, accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Fuad Hussein, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Planning Mohammed Tamim, and Minister of Interior Abdul Amir Al-Shammari.
Al-Sudani was received by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani, where the meeting is scheduled to discuss a number of important issues related to the work of the government and coordination with the legislative authority.
The House of Representatives voted at the beginning of the hosting session that the “session be secret” with regard to the security aspect.
In turn, Al-Sudani's office said in a statement that the Prime Minister reviewed, in the House of Representatives session, the government policies and measures taken to confront the region's challenges and developments since the events of October 7, 2023, and he also indicated that he explained the reasons for amending the Federal General Budget Law.
Al-Sudani also reviewed, according to his media office, a summary of the government program, its implementation rates, and the achieved targets of government priorities.
Also, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Fuad Hussein, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Planning Mohammed Tamim, and Minister of Interior Abdul Amir Al-Shammari presented a briefing on foreign policies and government measures to confront all challenges and the progress of implementing the government program, during the hosting session.
