Independent MP Jawad Al-Yassari confirmed today, Wednesday (December 4, 2024), that there are no signs of voting on controversial laws, explaining the reason for that.
Al-Yassari said, “So far, there are no signs of voting on controversial laws after it was postponed the day before yesterday due to breaking the legal quorum for the voting session to continue, despite voting on the articles of the laws and leaving the vote on those laws in general.”
He explained that "the reason for this is the continuing differences between the political forces as well as between the representatives and the objections to the laws despite voting on their paragraphs only," adding, "Therefore, we do not expect to vote on them due to these political differences that continue until now."
It is noteworthy that the office of the Speaker of the House of Representatives announced yesterday, Tuesday, January 3, 2024, that the Speaker of the House, Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani, adjourned the session due to the lack of a legal quorum.
The House of Representatives held its session on Monday, attended by 193 representatives, and began voting on controversial and controversial laws, most notably personal status, amending the general amnesty law, and returning properties to their owners covered by some decisions of the (dissolved) Revolutionary Command Council.
Due to disagreements between the parliamentary blocs on the laws, the session was adjourned for half an hour for consultation, but due to the lack of agreement and the breach of quorum, it was postponed until Tuesday.
