    Baghdad Today - Baghdad
Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani sponsored, today, Thursday (December 5, 2024), the celebration of the International Volunteer Day, which was held in the capital, Baghdad, and witnessed the honoring of the winners of the National Giving Award from various governorates of Iraq.
Al-Sudani stressed, in a speech during the celebration, according to a statement from his media office received by "Baghdad Today", the importance of this day dedicated to praising the value of volunteer work and supporting the efforts, contributions and sacrifices of volunteers, and strengthening the title of social and humanitarian solidarity, noting that volunteering is a humanitarian condition in which volunteers rise above, advancing the ranks for noble goals, and spending their efforts in order to achieve higher humanitarian goals, producing inspiring stories.
The Prime Minister recalled "the great services provided by volunteers to support the government's efforts in the war against the terrorist ISIS gangs, through volunteering to fight and providing services to the displaced or those who were displaced during the liberation operations, defying the most difficult and harsh conditions, and praised the efforts of the Supreme Council for Youth for what it provided to the youth segments, indicating his keenness to participate in this special celebration of the International Volunteer Day on December 5 of each year."
He explained that "Iraq is one of the first countries in the world in volunteer work, and the world sees the generosity and racing of Iraqis, starting with volunteering for the homeland in all challenges, and performing the duty of service in the million-strong visits, and we must not forget the repercussions of the war against ISIS and the displacement of more than 5 million citizens, and the main effort to accommodate this number and serve it was the effort of the citizen volunteer."
Al-Sudani continued, "Voluntary work is present at all stations, and during the Corona pandemic, the volunteer state was present everywhere, and today volunteer work is at all joints, and in return for every government effort there is a supportive effort for volunteering, and it is also important that we establish as a state on these efforts to build our country and face challenges."
He explained that "volunteering is not only for charitable work and exceptional cases, but work is required in the environmental aspect and its dangerous challenges that are equivalent to the challenges of terrorism, and we have a need for volunteer effort, and government efforts alone are not enough to confront environmental changes."
He added, "There is systematic work targeting the spread of drugs in schools, and there is a need for community and voluntary work. We need voluntary efforts to strengthen national unity and spread national discourse."
He pointed out that, "The ministries and state institutions have been directed to provide support and response to volunteers, and there is a continuous follow-up to implement these directives, and all state institutions are obligated to provide support to volunteer work teams. We have also allocated a financial grant for volunteers who are exposed to accidents while performing their volunteer duty, in addition to presenting annual national awards, and celebrating the National Day of the Iraqi Volunteer."
