In the face of increasing blackmail and digital violations, the draft law on cybercrimes seeks to establish a legal framework that protects individuals from increasing electronic threats. This law aims to regulate the digital space in a way that ensures the protection of individuals while preventing the restriction of their freedom to express their opinions.
Despite concerns raised about its impact on freedom of expression, many consider the law an important step towards providing a safer digital environment. It contributes to reducing cybercrimes that threaten personal and public security, such as digital fraud and blackmail, and allows citizens to interact freely in the digital space without fear of threats that may affect their private lives.
Observers also highlight the importance of finding mechanisms to combat negative uses of technology, such as spreading misleading information or exploiting platforms to support illegal activities. Many experts believe that this law could contribute to laying the foundations for regulating social media platforms.
However, there are voices calling for the importance of urging legislators to ensure a fair balance between digital security and individual freedoms guaranteed by the Constitution in Article (38). They stress the need to establish clear controls to define cybercrimes, which contributes to enhancing transparency in the application of the law.
