Member of the Parliamentary Oil, Gas and Natural Resources Committee, Basem Naghamish, revealed the details of hosting the Director of SOMO, Khadir Abbas, and the Director General of the Oil Products Distribution Company, Hussein Talib, yesterday, to discuss the kerosene crisis.
Naghamish said, “Yesterday, the hosting was for the General Manager of SOMO and the General Manager of Petroleum Products, regarding export and import problems, and these problems are recurring and have created crises in export or import.”
He added, "SOMO attributes the reason to the lack of storage and the lack of storage capacity despite production."
A member of the Parliamentary Oil Committee pointed out that “there are no pipelines, and the export pipelines are worn out and old,” stressing that “the export system needs development, and the other problem is that the weather conditions led to ships not docking, and thus a problem occurred.”
According to Naghmish, the committee stressed important points, most notably that “these crises are recurring and old crises, not new, and every time we hear this talk, we want a clear position from the ministry and what are its procedures that would avoid these problems.”
He pointed out that "the hosting session remained open in the hope that the discussions would be completed and there would be outcomes or recommendations for the purpose of following up with the ministry and the Council of Ministers, given that the issue is a matter of money and they always complain about the lack of financial allocations and the lack of funding for the ministry's important projects by the Ministry of Finance. This is the gist of the matter."
It is noteworthy that the Parliamentary Oil and Gas Committee hosted the Director General of the Iraqi Oil Marketing Company, yesterday, Wednesday, regarding the kerosene crisis in Basra Governorate and the suspension of the Shuaiba refinery.
Starting from December 2nd, 3 days ago, signs of a kerosene crisis began to appear in Basra Governorate, with fears that it would spread to other governorates as a result of the Shuaiba refinery stopping work.
