The Parliamentary Finance Committee announced the submission of the draft amendment to the General Retirement Law to the first reading, indicating that the law stipulates amending the retirement age from 60 to 63 years.
The head of the committee, Atwan Al-Atwani, said in a press statement: “The committee submitted the draft amendment to the General Retirement Law to the first reading.” He added that “the law stipulates amending the retirement age from 60 to 63 years.”
A letter submitted by the committee to the Presidency of the Council of Representatives stated, “Based on the provisions of Article (60 / Second) of the Constitution and Article (87 / First) of the Internal Regulations of the Council of Representatives No. (1) of 2022, please include the proposed law amending the second amendment to the Unified Retirement Law No. (9) of 2014 (amended)) on the agenda of the Council of Representatives to present it for the first reading in accordance with the approved procedural procedures.”
In its previous session in 2019, the House of Representatives voted to amend the retirement law, especially the paragraph related to reducing the retirement age from 63 to 60 years, which sparked widespread controversy among a segment of employees in government departments.[/size]
