    Baghdad Today - Baghdad
Member of Parliament Yasser Iskandar confirmed today, Saturday (December 7, 2024), that the general amnesty law will proceed with a political agreement within the House of Representatives.
Iskandar said in an interview with Baghdad Today, "The general amnesty law is important to solve a major problem internally and is the beginning of resolving many issues, but according to a principle that takes into consideration the public interest first and achieving justice and fairness for all parties."
He added, "The political forces, with all their titles, agree to proceed with the general amnesty, and the controversial points raised by some are incorrect, because the interpretation of the provisions of the amendments to the law related to public funds and others depends on the principle of recovering them in the first place before granting freedom to any accused."
Iskandar pointed out that "the general amnesty gives a new opportunity to many of those accused to address their mistakes, but to ensure the rights of the state and society, reaching those who were harmed by any crime, stressing that the law will be passed in the end because the political agreement is in place."
The House of Representatives is scheduled to vote in its next session on amending the controversial general amnesty law, while a number of members of parliament have expressed their objection to some paragraphs of the law, saying that it includes those who stole public money.
Members of the House of Representatives point out that “the law has the support of the political forces and the House of Representatives in principle, but it faces objections related to its articles on releasing criminals for crimes of shedding the blood of the people or financial corruption .”
