Migration: We are ready for any displacement from Syria to Iraq

The Ministry of Migration and Displacement announced its readiness for any displacement from Syria to Iraq, against the backdrop of the battles raging between the opposition and the Syrian regime.
Undersecretary of the Ministry, Karim Al-Nouri, said in an interview with a televised program, “The scene in Syria will be worse than Mosul,” indicating that “Iraq’s measures to confront ISIS in 2014 are different from Syria’s movements now.”
Al-Nouri explained that “the Syrian soldiers surrendered themselves and will return to their country later,” stressing that “Iraq 2024 is completely different and the scenes of Mosul will not return,” and that “our forces have developed.”
He pointed out that "Iraq is scary and has its own enemies, and anyone who opposes it will fall. Iraq is moving within a precise equation and there is great caution," adding: "Whoever wants a stable Iraq must comply with the official decision."
The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Migration and Displacement added: “We have a vision and are prepared in the event of displacement from Syria,” noting that “we offer the favor and are not concerned with the issue of returning it.”
He explained that “about 4,500 Lebanese have returned to their country so far and there is momentum regarding the return,” and “we received the Lebanese generously in Iraq and today they have started to return,” stressing: “We followed up on the Iraqis who wanted to return from Lebanon to the country,” and that “Iraq succeeded in receiving the displaced people of Lebanon and seeing them off and they returned for free.”
Al-Nouri said that “some European countries refused to receive their citizens from Al-Hol,” and that “Iraq was able to return 6,000 people from the Syrian Al-Hol camp,” and that “Iraq’s position was courageous in normalizing the conditions of Al-Hol camp,” indicating that “Al-Hol camp includes terrorist leaders and this is a great danger.”
He added: “There is no discrimination between the displaced and we deal with everyone with the same approach,” and “If a decision is issued for the return of the displaced people of Jurf al-Sakhar, we are ready,” but “some of the displaced people of Jurf are residing in Karbala and their condition is good.”
He stated that "there is a feeling in Kurdistan of the need to end the displacement crisis," noting that "the file of the displaced people of Al-Awisat and Yathrib is on its way to being closed."
The ministry’s spokesman, Ali Abbas, referred to the possibility of Syrians seeking refuge in Iraq in light of the current security tensions, and said, “This depends on the political decision, and we are an executive body that implements any political decision taken by the state.”
He explained that “the scenario of displacement from Syria has not been addressed, because the borders with Syria have been officially closed, and the deployment of Iraqi forces on the borders prevents any infiltration into Iraq,” indicating that “displacement depends on the upcoming data on the Syrian scene, and at that time and for each incident there is a discussion, but now it is not an option and we are waiting for developments.”
