Baghdad: Shukran Al-Fatlawi
The government's seriousness in addressing stalled projects has resulted in the resumption of work on more than 1000 projects in Baghdad and the governorates, as the projects represent an important step towards increasing production and improving services within the country.
They are also a real gateway towards achieving sustainable development that everyone seeks, benefiting from the size of the country's wealth that can transfer the Iraqi economy to the ranks of major economies. The Ministry of Planning revealed the size of stalled projects, contracts and components over the past years, and also showed the size of contracts and components that have been processed.
Processing contracts
The official spokesman for the Ministry of Planning, Abdul Zahra Al-Hindawi, stated in a statement that the number of contracts and components that have been processed (1104), distributed as follows: (555) for ministries and (549) for governorates, noting that the number of stalled components and contracts amounted to about (3004) contracts, distributed as follows: (1482) contracts and components for ministries, and (1522) contracts and components for governorates, according to the latest statistics.
Financial costs
: He pointed out that the Ministry is making great efforts to address stalled projects throughout the country, within the government program and the directives of the Prime Minister, with a tendency to cancel some projects, whose completion rate does not exceed 10 percent, and refer other projects for investment, and partnership with the private sector in order to reduce their financial costs.
Reasons for procrastination
: For his part, the economic researcher and consulting engineer Imad Al-Muhammadawi attributed in a statement the reasons for the procrastination of some projects, and the low rates of completion in others, to corruption and the overlapping of powers that existed, in addition to the lack of integrity of the companies to which the projects were referred. Rather, the selection criterion was favoritism, not integrity.
Al
-Muhammadawi added that the procrastination in various projects has cost the state budget huge losses, and wasted money, effort and time, as a result of the damage and the disappearance of most of them due to the delay in completing the work and stopping, pointing out that the current government has shown seriousness in addressing the procrastination in various projects through statistics and taking into account the priority and importance of the project, in an attempt to end these files and implement them in the next few years.
Solid companies
and stressed the need to work hard by referring violators to integrity and financial oversight, taking the necessary measures against them, developing solutions to complete stalled and extinct projects, and working to select companies known for their serious and solid work.
