Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani launched, yesterday evening, Saturday, the executive works of the Baghdad Sustainable Forests Project, which will be implemented on the land of (formerly Rashid Camp), with an area exceeding (12 million m2). Al-Sudani stated, in a speech during the launch ceremony, that “the project is the first of its kind to be implemented in Iraq, in terms of type, area and activities, and it will also be the first at the regional level,” stressing the partnership with the private sector, which is technically and financially capable in its implementation. The Prime Minister stressed that housing is a priority in the government’s program, but not at the expense of investing in areas inside Baghdad, but rather by establishing new residential cities that include a large percentage of green spaces, as Ali Al-Wardi and Al-Jawahiri residential cities will be built on the outskirts of Baghdad, noting that “the government’s work method, with scientific plans, relies on reconstruction and development projects in Baghdad and all governorates.” He also noted that "this project has great environmental importance for the capital, and provides a haven for the Iraqi family in Baghdad," announcing his keenness to "provide the necessary means for these projects, within a plan that addresses environmental distortions in Baghdad and the governorates." According to a statement issued by the Prime Minister's media office received by him, "the Baghdad Sustainable Forests Project is the largest urban forest in the country, and will be a prominent tourist, recreational and cultural destination, in addition to its important environmental role, as it includes giant forests containing about one million perennial trees divided into (28) forests with diverse activities, in addition to its economic feasibility, as it will provide (80) thousand diverse job opportunities."[/size]
