    Baghdad Today - Baghdad
An informed source revealed, today, Monday (December 9, 2024), a reassuring message from Washington to Baghdad regarding the border security file with Syria.
The source said in an interview with "Baghdad Today", "Washington sent a brief message to the Baghdad government stating that Iraq's borders will not be exposed to any attacks by the Syrian factions that began imposing their control over the border police stations, cities and towns 3 days ago."
He added, "Washington has direct contact with most of the leaders of the Syrian factions, and it seems that its influence is tangible in drawing up a map of their movements, and its message to Baghdad comes in order to avoid any Iraqi interference in the Syrian problem, especially with the fall of the Assad regime yesterday."
He pointed out that "the American message that arrived yesterday evening, Thursday, came in order to avoid any direct intervention by any Iraqi party in the Syrian crisis."
On Sunday (December 1, 2024), the Syrian armed factions sent a message to the Iraqi government and the Iraqi people.
The factions added that they "do not pose any threat to security or stability in Iraq or in any country in the region," noting that "we in the Salvation Government reassure the Iraqi government and the brotherly Iraqi people that Syria will not be a source of anxiety or tension in the region. On the contrary, we are committed to developing and strengthening fraternal cooperation relations with Iraq to ensure stability in the region and achieve the common interests of our two peoples."
