The Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs is studying the establishment of factories and production lines to employ workers and create job opportunities for the unemployed, by investing the funds of the Retirement and Social Security Fund.
The ministry’s spokesman, Najm Al-Aqabi, told Al-Sabah: The ministry is working according to a clear and integrated strategy that addresses the axes of the government program, in combating unemployment and providing job opportunities for young people, training and qualifying them to enter the labor market, supporting the private sector by legislating the Retirement and Social Security Law for workers, supporting the poor and vulnerable groups, combating child labor, and others.
He pointed out that the ministry is currently studying the investment of the funds of the Retirement and Social Security Fund, to establish factories or national production lines that contribute to employing workers, qualifying job seekers and integrating them into the labor market, in a way that achieves material benefit for the beneficiaries of this fund and reducing the phenomenon of unemployment, noting that creating decent job opportunities for young people in light of the economic challenges facing the labor sector in the country, is a basic goal of the ministry through coordination with the public and private sectors.
Al-Aqabi added that the ministry’s plan to invest the Social Security Fund’s funds will be through adopting regional and international experiences, in coordination with private sector companies, and adopting the ministry’s database to provide the required manpower to make the planned projects successful. He added that the ministry had previously implemented the Dar Al Salam complex project, which is one of the promising projects it presented through the Department of Retirement and Social Security for Workers, as a new experiment to support the Retirement Fund on the one hand, and to contribute to developing the private sector and solving the housing crisis on the other hand.
