Iraqi government: We respect the free will of the Syrian people
The Iraqi government stressed the importance of non-interference in Syria's internal affairs, emphasizing the need for Syria's security and territorial integrity, and preserving its independence, while indicating that Syria's security and territorial integrity are of utmost importance, while the presidencies and the State Administration Coalition held a meeting to discuss developments in the situation in Syria at the invitation of President Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid.
Iraqi government spokesman Bassem Al-Awadi said in a statement: "The Iraqi government is following the developments in the situation in Syria, and continues international contacts with sisterly and friendly countries, in order to push efforts towards stability, and preserve security, public order, lives and property for the brotherly Syrian people." Al
-Awadi added, "Iraq stresses the need to respect the free will of all Syrians, and stresses that Syria's security, territorial integrity, and preserving its independence are of utmost importance, not only for Iraq, but also for its connection to the security and stability of the region."
He added that "the Iraqi government supports all international and regional efforts seeking to open a dialogue that includes the Syrian arena with all its spectrums and trends, and in accordance with what the interests of the brotherly Syrian people require, leading to the adoption of a pluralistic constitution that preserves the human and civil rights of Syrians, and supports the cultural and religious diversity enjoyed by the generous Syrian people, and the necessity of preserving this diversity, which represents a source of wealth for Syria, without prejudice or neglecting it."
Al-Awadi noted that "we reiterate the importance of not interfering in Syria's internal affairs, or supporting one party for the benefit of another, as interference will only push the situation in Syria towards more conflict and division, and the first to be harmed will be the Syrian people who have paid a heavy price, and this is something that Iraq does not accept for a brotherly, independent and sovereign country, and is linked to our Iraqi people by ties of brotherhood, history, blood and religion."
In addition, Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani held a meeting of the presidencies and the State Administration Coalition yesterday, Sunday, to discuss developments in the situation in Syria.
The Prime Minister's media office said in a statement that "Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani attended the meeting of the presidencies and the State Administration Coalition to discuss developments in Syria."
Meanwhile, the head of the State of Law Coalition, Nouri al-Maliki, and the Speaker of Parliament, Mahmoud al-Mashhadani, stressed Iraq's keenness on the importance of maintaining stability in Syria, while warning of the impact of the situation in Syria on Iraq.
Al-Maliki's media office said in a statement received by "Al-Zawraa": "The head of the State of Law Coalition, Nouri al-Maliki, received the Speaker of Parliament, Mahmoud al-Mashhadani, in his office," noting that "the meeting discussed the latest developments in the political and security situation in the country, and reviewed the current developments in Syria and the change of the regime there."
The two sides stressed, according to the statement, "Iraq's keenness on the importance of maintaining stability in Syria, because its instability will negatively affect Iraq and all countries in the region. The need to legislate important laws, activate the oversight and legislative role of the House of Representatives, and coordinate between political forces for the purpose of legislating important laws that serve the citizen was also emphasized."
The leader of the State of Law Coalition, Nouri al-Maliki, expressed his respect for the will of the Syrian people to make change and build their state today, Sunday.
Al-Maliki said in a tweet on the X platform, “We respect the will of the brotherly Syrian people to make change and build their state through a political process in which all components of the Syrian people participate without marginalization or exclusion.”
He added, “On this occasion, we call on our Iraqi people, as we called on our Syrian people, to stand together with all their components, preserve the integrity of the country and the political process, reject any attempt to undermine their Iraqi national unity, and set an example of keenness and commitment to the state and the system[/size]
