{Economic: Al Furat News} The Prime Minister’s advisor for financial affairs, Mazhar Muhammad Salih, confirmed that Iraq will not be affected economically by the change of regime in neighboring Syria.
Saleh told Al Furat News Agency: "Although the stability of neighboring countries is important in the stability of what is called the economic and commercial attraction of our country due to the factor of distance and economic geography, Syria has been subjected to a major boycott for more than a decade by major countries, especially the interruption of banking transactions and its exposure to internal political problems that have disrupted the country's economic unity and coordinated dealings with the neighborhood and the world."
He added that "based on that, Iraq has not been economically linked to Syria except in individual tourist areas or in the trade of some simple food items, and there are no banking or investment ties similar to the relations with the Gulf countries and others. On the contrary, the influx of Syrian refugees for humanitarian reasons in addition to the Syrian labor force that has spread in various service and production sectors in our country has been a pressure factor on the Iraqi labor market."
