Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani concluded a quick visit to Jordan, which discussed the repercussions of the situation in Syria and joint cooperation to enhance security and stability in the region. He also met with a delegation from the US State Department on the same topic, in addition to bilateral relations.
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister received a phone call yesterday evening from Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman to discuss developments in the Syrian arena.
The Prime Minister stressed the importance of standing by the brotherly Syrian people, while stressing the need to intensify international efforts to reach an immediate halt to the aggression on Gaza.
The Prime Minister's media office stated in a statement: "Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani met in the Jordanian capital, Amman, with the King of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, King Abdullah II, where they discussed current developments in the region and events on the Syrian arena."
The statement added that "the meeting witnessed an emphasis on the importance of strengthening bilateral coordination in order to confront regional and international challenges, and continuing efforts to prevent the expansion of the conflict in the Middle East and the risk of slipping into chaos."
The Prime Minister stressed, according to the statement, "the importance of standing by the brotherly Syrian people in these difficult circumstances, the need to respect the free will of all Syrians, preserve the unity of Syrian territory, the country's sovereignty, and its ethnic, religious, and social diversity, and support the Syrian people's choices towards building a stable and prosperous Syria that ensures the participation of all its components in managing the country's affairs, continuing consultations with all parties, and exchanging visions to present effective initiatives that serve common interests and enhance stability in the region."
The two sides stressed, according to the statement, "intensifying international efforts to reach an immediate end to the aggression on Gaza, and doubling relief and medical aid to reduce the suffering of the people of the Strip, while warning of the danger of continued hostile acts by settlers against Palestinians in the West Bank, as well as working to ensure the consolidation of the ceasefire in Lebanon and ensuring its stability."
The statement added that the meeting discussed aspects of bilateral relations between the two countries, ways to enhance them, and continuing work to build fruitful partnerships in various fields, in the interest of the two brotherly peoples.
Meanwhile, the Prime Minister's Media Office stated in a statement that Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani received a delegation from the US State Department, headed by Under Secretary for Political Affairs John Bass and Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs Barbara Leaf. The meeting discussed bilateral relations between Iraq and the United States and ways to enhance and develop them. During the meeting, emphasis was placed on joint coordination regarding the situation in Syria, and the importance of a transitional phase that includes all parties and preserves the rights of all components in order to consolidate stability within Syria.
The Prime Minister stressed that Iraq is playing its role in communicating with brothers and friends to consult on the situation in Syria, and the importance of respecting the will of the Syrian people in determining their future.
For his part, Bass stated that Iraq is a key partner in the region, stressing the importance of consulting with it on developments. He also expressed the commitment of the international coalition to protect Iraq's security and sovereignty from any external threat.
In addition, Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani received a phone call from the Crown Prince of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Prince Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud. During the call, they discussed developments in the Syrian arena and their repercussions on the region. Both sides stressed the need for joint Arab coordination and work to enhance dialogue between all Syrian parties and ensure Syria's security, sovereignty and territorial integrity.
According to a statement by the Prime Minister's media office, the call also witnessed discussions on bilateral relations between the two countries and ways to develop and advance them in various fields, in a way that achieves the common interests of the two brotherly peoples.
