Member of the Parliamentary Legal Committee, Raed Al-Maliki, confirmed today, Wednesday, that linking controversial laws together within the House of Representatives’ schedules negatively affected legislative work and led to the waste of many efforts.
Al-Maliki said in a statement, “The legislations that differ in their problems and points of disagreement between one law and another contributed to complicating the legislative process,” indicating that “linking the laws came as a result of the lack of trust between the political forces, as implicit conditions were set for voting on one law versus another.”
He added, "Linking controversial laws together within the House of Representatives' schedules negatively affected legislative work and led to the waste of a lot of effort."
He expected that "with the beginning of the legislative session next year, the problem of linking laws together will end, which will contribute to accelerating the legislative process."
In recent months, Parliament has witnessed great political tensions as a result of disagreements over the mechanism for enacting laws, especially those that are combined into what is known as the “basket of laws.” This mechanism relies on discussing a group of laws that are related or unrelated to each other in one package, which has raised objections from several political parties.
