    Baghdad Today - Baghdad
Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani opened the 61st session of the Arab Health Ministers Meeting, hosted by the capital, Baghdad, today, Thursday (December 12, 2024).
The media office of the Council President stated in a statement received by "Baghdad Today" that "Al-Sudani welcomed the Arab presence, stressing that Baghdad, and all Iraqi cities, will remain a haven for the brothers, with all activities, conferences and events, within the role that befits the Iraqis and their history and position among their brothers, in the region and the world."
In his speech at the opening of the meeting, according to the statement, the Prime Minister explained the importance of the significant strides made by the government within its program on the path to improving the state of health care and building infrastructure for this vital sector, stressing that “this approach was built on a firm belief in the importance of the government assuming the duty to provide humanitarian and service needs at the level of the citizen’s ambition, and health comes first in these necessities.”
He pointed out "the importance of paying attention and necessity to supporting our people in Gaza as they suffer from the collapse of the health sector and the loss of care and treatment, under the pressure of aggression and siege, and that Iraq was and still is at the forefront of those who took the initiative to help our people in Palestine."
Al-Sudani added, "We have taken two parallel paths. The first included developing the infrastructure of the health sector, and we completed dozens of hospitals, specialized centers, and health care centers. The other was through making a radical change in the administrative system of health institutions."
He added, " The adoption of health insurance and joint management of hospitals through well-known scientific institutions is an experiment that has begun to expand in its successes, and citizens have begun to see its fruits."
He explained that "the state has allocated high funding to complete the health care paths, and this funding will have a positive impact faster than planned." He explained that " the budgets that Iraqis were spending on treatment outside Iraq will be dedicated to being part of our national economy and feeding our health services system."
The Prime Minister said: “ We have made clear strides in localizing the pharmaceutical industry, and there has been a noticeable increase in the percentage of meeting the pharmaceutical need through local manufacturing. We must not miss out on shedding light on the moral and humanitarian responsibility, represented by the necessity of following up on the shattered health situation that our people in Gaza and all Palestinian territories are suffering from.”
He pointed out that " Iraq was and still is one of the first to take the initiative to help our Palestinian people as they patiently and courageously face the aggression of the occupation and the crimes of genocide."
He added, "It is incumbent upon us to begin mobilizing efforts to change this painful health reality, which targets the dignity of the Palestinian people, and to extend a helping hand and initiative to our people and children as they taste the bitterness of the loss of treatment and the siege of aggression."
Al-Sudani stressed that " we must stand with the brotherly Syrian people in their ordeal and the difficult turning point they are going through, and the pressure of humanitarian needs that accompany the circumstances and events."
He also stressed "the safety and sovereignty of sisterly Syria, the safety of state institutions and public and private property, and the preservation of civil peace rich in social, cultural and ethnic diversity, while respecting the will of the Syrian people."
The Prime Minister concluded by saying, " This conference of yours is an important opportunity to exchange expertise and successful experiences, for the purpose of developing health work mechanisms in all our Arab countries in order to achieve the best medical and treatment services."
