A responsible source at the Central Bank of Iraq denied, today, Thursday, December 12, 2024, an audio recording attributed to the Governor of the Central Bank, Ali Al-Alaq.
The source told the official agency, which was followed by "Baghdad Today", that: "There is no truth to the recording attributed to the Governor of the Central Bank, Ali Al-Alaq, in which he spoke about smuggling $250 million daily through remittances and the rise in the dollar price."
He added, "The Central Bank has achieved a great accomplishment in putting the external transfer and cash sale of the dollar and other currencies on a transparent path that is consistent with international standards and practices and has received wide international acclaim."
He added, "The measures taken achieve stability in the exchange rate, and covering imports at the official price achieves what we are witnessing in terms of general stability in prices and reducing inflation."
An audio recording, attributed to the Governor of the Central Bank of Iraq, Ali Al-Alaq, spread on social media, in which he expected the value of the dollar to rise to 250 thousand dinars within days, and that "the largest dollar smuggling operation in the history of Iraq, worth 250 million dollars per day, is currently taking place."
