Grooming your kitty

Post by Lobo on Fri Jul 31, 2015 8:23 pm

I don't really bathe my cat because I know cats groom themselves, but is there any other kind of grooming he should be getting? — Bonnie W.
Great question! It's very important to have a grooming schedule for your cat. We checked in with veterinary technician Sharon Gardner and this is her advice:

  • Keep your cat's hairballs at a minimum by having grooming sessions.

  • If you have a long-haired cat, you should brush him every few days, but if you have a short-haired cat, weekly sessions will do.

  • Use a metal comb to brush your cat from head to tail, and make sure to always work in the direction that the fur grows. Brushing in the opposite direction is uncomfortable for your cat.
