The fire in a refugee accommodation center in the eastern German town of Schwabisch Gmund caused only minor property damage and resulted with no injuries, according to local media.

BERLIN (Sputnik) — A refugee accommodation center in the eastern German town of Schwabisch Gmund was allegedly set on fire on Friday, local media reported.

The fire caused only minor property damage and resulted with no injuries, the German Bild newspaper said. According to the police and the town administration, arson most likely was the cause of the fire.
The building is scheduled to be ready to accommodate some 120 refugees in spring 2016.

Earlier in December, German Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere announced that 965,000 people had received or applied for refugee status in Germany this year.

According to official estimates, 817 assaults on refugee centers were recorded in Germany between January and mid-November. The German authorities have repeatedly warned against violence toward refugees.
