Ted Cruz Issues Apology to ‘Millions of New Yorkers’ — but It’s Probably Not What You Think

Republican presidential hopeful Ted Cruz issued an apology to “millions of New Yorkers” at a campaign event Friday — but it’s probably not the one they were looking for.

“I apologize to the millions of New Yorkers who have been let down by liberal politicians,” Cruz told an audience in South Carolina.

Cruz came under fire in Thursday’s debate for recent attacks on 2016 rival Donald Trump in which he said the businessman had “New York values.” Trump said the attack was “insulting” to the millions of residents who call the city home and reminded the audience of the bravery New Yorkers demonstrated in the aftermath of 9/11.

The liberal New York Daily News published a cover Friday in response to Cruz, featuring an image of the Statue of Liberty giving the Texas senator the finger and telling him to “DROP DEAD.”
