Effectively this is already over.... We watch for the Kuwaiti PM visit to sign the nine economic agreements in a very public and highly advertised event... Then comes the UN meeting for release, shortly thereafter comes the prize....

Kuwait, Iraq Border Hitch Solved: Kobler
    ‘Houses Demolished’

BAGHDAD, March 29, (KUNA): United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon’s Special Representative for Iraq Martin Kobler said the problem blocking the maintenance of Kuwaiti-Iraqi frontier signs has been resolved by the demolition of Iraqi border houses.

The announcement was made during a joint press conference between Kobler, who is also the head of the United Nations Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI), and Basra Governor Khalaf Abdul-Samad.

He said Iraqi families have accepted the demolition of their houses on the Iraqi-Kuwaiti border with the goal of proceeding with the joint border sign maintenance process.

However, Kobler emphasized that the only way for Iraq to exit Chapter VII of the UN Charter is to live up to all relevant international obligations, noting that Iraqi-Iraqi relations are developing.

For his part, Basra Governor Khalaf Abdul-Samad said three Iraqi houses impeding the border sign maintenance were demolished on Wednesday.

The Iraqi owners of the three demolished houses agreed to evacuate their properties upon agreement with the Iraqi government, he added.

On March 11, 2013, a group of Iraqi people gathered at the Iraqi-Kuwaiti border in order to impede the maintenance of the Iraqi-Kuwaiti frontier border signs.

Meanwhile, in an unrelated development, Kuwait’s Supreme Judiciary Council Chairman Faisal Al-Mershed met a visiting World Bank (WB) delegation on the Kuwaiti judicial experiment in the creation of the congenial economic and legal atmosphere for turning Kuwait into a financial and commercial hub.

Speaking to KUNA following the meeting, Al-Mershed, who is also chief of the Constitutional Court, said he had discussed with the WB team viewpoints and counsel on the country’s judiciary and laws in view of qualification and promotion.

He added that he had briefed the guests on the shortage of Kuwaiti judges at the courts of appeals and cassation, together with judges’ accountability and judicial inspection.

The Kuwaiti team, who is entrusted with compiling a report on the provision of an appropriate economic and investment atmosphere for turning Kuwait into an international financial and commercial hub, tabled a set of legal suggestions pertinent to bankruptcy, arbitration and legislative flexibility, he said.

He pointed out that there was no bankruptcy in Kuwait anymore, and a law was adopted to address the issue of defaulters who are 12,000 in number.
