Hillary Clinton meets with workers at Caesar’s Palace hotel and casino Feb. 18, 2015.
NEW YORK – Hillary Clinton’s refusal to answer questions about her recent coughing fits or to explain why she is wearing eyeglasses fitted with Fresnel prisms supports the conclusion of several qualified physicians that her presidential campaign is still keeping key health records hidden from the American public.
After her most recent coughing fit Tuesday during a speech in New York City, Clinton left Chicago on Wednesday wearing her normal contact lenses. But at a photo opportunity in Las Vegas, she was observed once again wearing the thick, black glasses fitted with Fresnel prisms, suggesting she was experiencing another bout of double vision.
On Thursday and Friday, WND spoke with several physicians about Clinton’s double vision problem, asking if they believed it could be related to the concussion she suffered in December 2012 that resulted in a blood clot in her head.
WND also asked whether Clinton’s repeated coughing bouts could be related to her hypothyroid condition for which she is taking Armour Thyroid, as WND previously reported, a natural remedy made from desiccated pig glands, or from her apparently congenital predisposition to form blood clots. To prevent clots, as WND reported, she is taking Coumadin, otherwise known as warfarin, an old but commonly prescribed blood-thinning medication originally developed as a rat poison.
WND also reported the medication Clinton has taken since 1998 to deal with her blood-clotting problems may have side effects such as blurred vision and confusion, both of which she has experienced. And a California physician warned Coumadin could be more life-threatening to her than the possibility of a recurring blood clot.
Head trauma causing double vision?
“It is very hard to draw substantial conclusions from the limited medical information we have on Hillary Clinton,” explained Dr. Todd Lasner, a neurosurgeon at Mount Sinai Medical in Miami.
“We cannot opine with 100 percent certainty, because we do not have all the medical facts,” he said. “Fresnel prisms are typically used to correct double vision, to refract light through the prism so you can see a single image as you are normally used to seeing.
“My first suspicion would be the Fresnel prisms were prescribed for Hillary Clinton because of nerve damage causing double vision resulting from a trauma to her head, possibly from the fall causing the concussion,” Lasner concluded. “But without her medical records, I cannot say for certain.”
Lasner did not believe Clinton’s need to wear eyeglasses fitted with Fresnel prisms was related to the Cerebral Venous Sinus Thrombosis (CVST), the blood clot in the head between the skull and the brain in the sinus behind the ear that she suffered as a result of the concussion.
“The type of blood clot she had in her brain can cause cerebral hemorrhaging, it can cause swelling of the brain, and other times it can just cause headaches, or it may not even be symptomatic in some cases,” he noted. “But for the CVST to cause double vision from a nerve injury that could be cured with a prism lens is unlikely.
“It’s possible all these conditions could be interrelated somehow,” he acknowledged.
He said the trauma to the head could damage a vein in the brain that leads to the vein developing a blood clot, with the same trauma to the head causing damage to a nerve resulting in the double vision requiring the Fresnel prism lens.
“That is the more likely scenario, but without a complete medical record, or unless I examined her myself, I cannot say for sure.”
Fresnel glasses require specialist diagnosis
Dr. Daniel Kassicieh, D.O., a dual board certified osteopathic neurologist and a leading headache specialist who directs the Florida Headache and Movement Disorder Center in Sarasota, Florida, agreed that the diagnosis of Clinton’s double vision and the prescription of a Fresnel prism lens would require consultation with a medical specialist.
“I saw Hillary Clinton first wearing the eyeglasses with the Fresnel prisms when she testified to Congress on Benghazi in January 2013, and she continued to wear them a while,” Kassicieh told WND. “Then I saw her again this week in Las Vegas wearing those black eyeglasses with the Fresnel prism lenses, and I wondered when her double vision came back, or if it never really went away.”
Kassicieh said he noticed Clinton’s coughing spells seem also to be a persistent and recurring problem.
“I think Hillary’s cough is a separate medical problem from her double vision,” he said. “But it makes me wonder if there isn’t something else going on with her health that we don’t know about.”
He said that if Clinton is taking medication for high blood pressure, she may be on ACE inhibitor, a pharmaceutical drug used to help relax blood vessels that in some patients causes a dry, persistent cough.
“But if high blood pressure medications were causing Hillary Clinton to have the persistent cough, I can’t imagine why her physicians wouldn’t do something about it, like simply changing her medications,” Kassicieh said.
“Or, the coughing could be related to a problem she has with gastroesophageal reflux disease [stomach acid flowing back into esophagus],” he posed. “But without having access to Hillary Clinton’s medical records, we really don’t know what the problem is causing her to have this persistent, hacking cough.”
But Kassicieh said it was nearly certain that wearing eyeglasses fitted with Fresnel prisms meant Clinton was under the care of a specialist eye doctor whose medical records have not been made public.
As WND reported Feb. 12, Kassicieh believes the concussion Clinton suffered in December 2012 that led to a serious blood clot requiring hospitalization may also have caused her to suffer post-concussion syndrome, with symptoms including confusion, headaches and dizziness.
“If I were treating a patient for post-concussion syndrome who complained of diplopia [the medical term for double vision] and had a history of concussion, I would send the patient to a neuro-opthamologist, to get an M.D. specialist consult. That would be the best medical practice,” he said.
“It takes a very complex examination and diagnosis to prescribe a Fresnel prism correctly, and no one other than trained eye physicians are qualified,” he continued.
“So when you are talking about someone who is a candidate for the president of the United States, I would assume, she would be referred to a high-end neuro-opthamologist to make the diagnosis and write the prescription if a Fresnel prism were required.”
‘Public has a right to know’
Dr. Ronald Hoffman, a New York City physician who hosts the nationally syndicated radio program “Intelligent Medicine,” told WND in a telephone interview that without the medical records, “we really have no idea what the medical condition causing Hillary Clinton to be wearing eyeglasses fitted with Fresnel prism lenses.”
Hoffman is past president of the nation’s largest organization of complementary and alternative doctors, the American College for Advancement in Medicine, or ACAM. He’s the founder and medical director of the Hoffman Center, specializing in a natural medicine approach that combines nutritional and metabolic medical assessment tools with high-tech innovations in traditional medicine.
On Feb. 4, WND reported Hoffman’s concerns that Clinton’s underactive hypothyroid condition complicates the medical treatment she is receiving for her genetic propensity to form blood clots.
This week, he told WND there is “no reason to suspect the medications Hillary Clinton is currently taking for her hypothyroid condition (Armour Thyroid) or for her blood clotting condition (Coumadin) are causing as a side-effect the persistent coughing we have seen interrupt her speeches recently.”
“I can’t imagine her diplopia is related to her hypothyroidism or her blood-clotting,” he continued. “The persistent coughing has to have some explanation. Maybe there is an underlying condition that is not being divulged. But with access to examine her full medical records, we simply do not know.
He said it’s unusual for a person to have an uncontrolled coughing spell that lasts for minutes at a time.
“That is something more than just an occasional clearing of the throat,” he said.
“But the real problem here with the Clintons is non-disclosure,” he concluded. “If she has some medical issues, let’s hear about them.
“It would not be unexpected her physicians might want to gloss over some medical problems to pronounce her in excellent health,” Hoffman said. “The truth is she might be in average health, taking several medications. It’s to be expected there might be some medical problems that beset people in their 60s.
“Why not just air out her full medical records? If she has some medical problems that are not yet disclosed, let’s hear about them,” he said. “Especially for a person running for president, the public has a right to know and there is no reason her full medical records should not be made open for examination.”
