[ltr][You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]Nineveh-Iraq Press -15 March / March: aspokesman for the Iraqi Ministry of Water Resources said that Italian engineers assigned tohelp prevent the catastrophic collapse of the largest dam to generate electricity from the waterfalls in Iraq will need at least two months to assess the dam before starting maintenance work.
Mahdi said Rashid Mahdi, Minister of Water Resources, told reporters adviser, on Monday evening, said that "It may take six months before the Trevi Group , the Italian company to start work in the Mosul Dam, as they need to bring in special equipment to fill gaps in the body of the dam resulted from corrosion."
He said Mahdi "will need between two months to six months and this was at the request of the company," adding that " the company needed time to import all its equipment and this certainly takes time, and we expected that."
Mehdi He said that there is no danger of an imminent collapse of the dam, after the implementation of some of the maintenance work, but more is needed to settle the construction, said the contract with the Trevi company would not provide a permanent solution.
The maintenance work was disrupted for two weeks in August 2014 when fighters dominated organization Daash on the dam.
And it raised the control of the organization on the dam fears of damage can not be repaired structured, and the collapse of thedam would destroy the city of Mosul, and other cities on the banks of the river , including the Iraqi capital , Baghdad, and causing the deaths of hundreds of thousands of victims.
Iraq has signed with the Italian Trevi a contract worth 273 million euros ($ 300 million) , an 18 - month to promote theconstruction and maintenance of a length of 3.6 kilometers.
Italy has said it plans to send troop strength of 450 soldiers to protect the dam located near the territory controlled by fightersof state regulation.
The dam was built on the Tigris River near the city of Mosul in northern Iraq in the eighties of the last century and needs constant repairs to prevent Ccarth.anthy (1)
