HEWLÊR-Erbil, Kurdistan region ‘Iraq’,— Kurdish member of Iraqi Kurdistan parliament Soran Omar has been summoned to appear at court over a complaint by two high level officials of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).
KRG Spokesman Safeen Dizayee and Chancellor of the Kurdistan Region’s Security Council (KRSC) Masrour Barzani have filed a lawsuit seeking more than 100 billion Iraqi dinars ($90 million) compensation.
The KRG officials accuse Omar of spreading “false information” about them when he appeared on the NRT program “Tawtwe.”

Omar, a member of the Kurdistan Islamic Group (KIG) bloc, said he was unable to attend the court hearing.
The hearing, which was due to be held on Tuesday (April 26) has been postponed to May 16, 2016.
Dizayee seeks 100 billion IQD and Barzani seeks 1 billion IQD in compensation.
Omar said told NRT he is pleased that KRG officials turn to courts in resolving such issues.
Omar accused Dizayee and Barzani of misuse of public funds when he appeared on “Tawtwe.”
“During a financial crisis facing the Kurdistan Region a hotel, named Hawraman Hotel near the Chwar Chra Hotel in Erbil was built by the KRG spokesman’s wife,” Omar said during the program.

Omar also commented on a son of Masoud Barzani without mentioning him by name saying, “A son of Masoud Barzani [father of Masrour Barzani] has sold Zalah oil and established a satellite channel for $79 million.”
Senior Kurdish officials including the ruling Barzani family are routinely accused of corruption and nepotism by Kurdish media as well as international observers.  Massoud Barzani has long been accused by critics of amassing huge wealth for his family instead of serving the population. Barzani’s son is the Kurdistan region’s intelligence chief and his nephew Nechirvan Barzani is the prime minister.
