Glenn Beck suspended by SiriusXM for 'assassinate' Trump interview


SiriusXM announced Tuesday it was suspending Glenn Beck for a week of broadcasts on its Patriot Channel 125 due to comments made by guest Brad Thor that the company deemed as too inflammatory.

Breitbart reported David Webb would take over Beck’s broadcasts in the 9 a.m. to noon time slot for the week.

In a statement reported by Breitbart, SiriusXM said: “Sirius XM encourages a diversity of discourse and opinion on our talk programs. However, comments recently made by a guest on the independently produced Glenn Beck Program, in the company’s judgement, may be reasonably construed by some to have been advocating harm against an individual currently running for office, which SiriusXM cannot and will not condone. For that reason, The Glenn Beck Program is suspended from our Patriot channel for the coming week. SiriusXM is committed to a spirited, robust, yet responsible political conversation and believes this action reflects those values.”

The announcement was a response to Beck’s interview last week of Thor, a novelist who spoke about presidential candidate Donald Trump as a “danger to America” on the radio program, and then went on to discuss different scenarios of his presidency that critics, and apparently SiriusXM executives, saw as suggestions to commit acts of violence, or even an assassination.

“I am about to suggest something very bad,” said Thor. “It is a hypothetical I am going to ask as a thriller writer.

“With the feckless, spineless Congress we have, who will stand in the way of Donald Trump overstepping his constitutional authority as president? If Congress won’t remove him from office, what patriot will step up and do that if, if, he oversteps his mandate as president, his constitution-mandated authority as president, I should say.

“If he oversteps that, how do we get him out of office? And I don’t think there is a legal means available. I think it will be a terrible, terrible position the American people will be in to get Trump out of office, because you won’t be able to do it through Congress.”

Beck responded, “I would agree with you on that.”

Many on Twitter interpreted Thor’s comment as a call to assassinate Trump, a charge he denied, as WND reported.

“A) I didn’t call for his assassination. B) ‘President-elect Trump’? You’re not very well informed, are you?” Thor tweeted.

But in March, Thor was predicting “unprecedented assassination attempts” against Trump, then as now, on the Glenn Beck Show.

“I want to right now ask everyone who is listening to pray for the men and women of the Secret Service who are charged with protecting Donald Trump and his family,” he told Beck. “May God protect them and may God protect the Trumps.”

Beck, meanwhile, said he personally interpreted Thor’s statements as a call for a Jimmy Stewart-like patriot taking to the halls of Congress to oppose Trump policies – as the sort of next “Mr. Smith Goes to Washington” character.

“It’s not a defense of assassination,” Thor told Reason after the announcement of Beck’s suspension. “I don’t even want to see a dictatorial president assassinated. We are a republic – a nation of laws – and the greater good would be served by the despot standing trial.

“Safeguarding the republic against a dictatorship is a topic of conversation that dates back to the Founders,” added Thor. “If we had to unseat a president without the backing of the Congress, we would need a patriot along the lines of George Washington to lead the country from tyranny back to liberty.”

Beck’s “TheBlaze Radio News” was added to the SiriusXM Internet lineup in March of 2013.
