A Kansas City, Kansas, police officer was fatally shot Tuesday, according to KCTV-TV.
The Associated Press confirmed the report, citing a trauma surgeon.
According to KCTV, police responded to an armed disturbance call earlier Tuesday afternoon when an “individual said three or four parties were shooting in his direction.”
Earlier Police Chief Terry Zeigler tweeted that one of their officers was shot. “Start prayers,” he added.
Josh Marshall, a reporter for KCTV, tweeted that sources told him the officer had died.
KCTV noted that the shooting follows the death of Kansas City police detective Brad Lancaster earlier this year.
According to the Kansas City Star, “Multiple suspects ran from the scene” of the shooting.
According to CNN, one person is in custody and two others have been detained. Police are still searching for another suspect.
