    Prep Time: 5 minutes minutes
    Servings: 1
A classic cocktail that has been around since the Prohibition era, the pretty, pale-green Last Word is enjoying a deserved resurgence in popularity, largely thanks to Seattle bartender Murray Stenson, who put it on the menu at his popular Zig Zag Café. Here we share the classic proportions, but feel free to increase the proportion of gin slightly if you’d like to tame the intensity of the Chartreuse, which has a complex herbaceous flavor. This drink is best drunk ice-cold, so stash your cocktail glasses in the freezer for a few hours before making this drink. Or, if you’re short on time, fill your martini glass with crushed ice a few minutes before making the drink, pouring the ice out right before adding the drink.

    Ingredients:

    • Ice as needed
    • 3/4 oz. (20 ml) gin
    • 3/4 oz. (20 ml) green Chartreuse
    • 3/4 oz. (20 ml) maraschino liqueur
    • 3/4 oz. (20 ml) fresh lime juice

    Directions:

In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, combine the gin, green Chartreuse, maraschino liqueur and lime juice. Cover, shake vigorously and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. Serve immediately. Serves 1.
