Baghdad/ Iraq TradeLink: The Sadrist leader Muqtada al-Sadr threatened today to boycott the coming
elections, if the current Elections Commission remained in post.
In mid of thousands of his followers and civilian activists, he called them to vote for the "corrupted people" and continue their protests "even if he was assassinated".
Most of the bridges and roads leading to al-Tahreer Square, center of the demonstration, were closed .
The coming provincial elections were determined on 16 September, 2017, while the general parliamentary elections are due in April, 2018.
He called tens of thousands of his followers to support the Iraqi army and security forces.
In the last hours before al-Sadr's speech, thousands of his followers poured into Baghdad coming from Shiite-majority southern province.
