China is preparing for a possible crisis with North Korea

    25/07/2017

China is preparing for a possible crisis with North Korea by strengthening its defenses along their common border, including building a new border bridge and building fortified rooms for civilians, the Wall Street Journal reported.
China has been beefing up its defenses along the border with North Korea since Pyongyang's first nuclear test in 2006, including building a fence along parts of the border and stepping up patrols, Reuters reported.
China has redeployed military forces in the northeast of the country, the report said, quoting Chinese military and government sites and Chinese and foreign experts.
The Chinese government has repeatedly said the North Korean issue can not be resolved militarily, while China is pushing ahead with an expanded program to reorganize and modernize the military.
Chinese Defense Ministry spokesman Wu Qian told reporters on Monday he could not answer a "virtual" question of what the Chinese military would do in the event of a clash.
