The US Central Command said on Saturday that Washington and Seoul had conducted their first joint exercises for short-range air defense systems on the Korean Peninsula.
"These maneuvers will allow the US and South Korean forces to see each other's weapons systems in order to establish a permanent partnership between the military units," the US Central Command said in a statement.
The test of military forces' cooperation between the two allied nations comes against the background of the threat of military conflict on the Korean Peninsula due to the sharp confrontation between the United States and North Korea, which has been at war since the 1950-1953 Korean Peninsula conflict.
Tension has risen over North Korea in the recent period after the exchange of threats between Washington and Pyongyang.
