Senior US official to visit Iraq next week

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - US Deputy Secretary of State for Political and Military Affairs Tina Kaidanov will start a tour of several countries in the region, including Iraq, next week, the State Department said.
In a statement, the ministry said the US official would discuss in Iraq the progress made in defeating a sympathetic organization and would consult with senior civilian and military officials in Qatar, as well as with US military commanders at the central base there.
She said that during her visit to Kuwait, she will "focus her meetings with senior political and military officials on expanding long-term partnerships in military readiness, arms transfers, maritime security and capacity building to fight terrorism."
"Kuwait is a prominent regional security partner who has always shown his commitment to build up his defense capabilities," the ministry said.
