He is being transferred from a self-styled Baathist group in Syria, who has American citizenship, to the US coalition in Iraq," the US-based news agency reported, quoting a Pentagon spokesman.
The agency did not say whether the Iraqi government was aware of the US action or whether there was a secret agreement to transfer US bases in Iraq to a detention facility similar to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba's southernmost base, 90 miles from Florida.
The US Defense Department said US forces had moved a person under the age of 18 to Iraq from Syria, while two US officials said it was a pregnant American teenager.
"US forces recently transferred a minor from Syria to Iraq safely," the ministry said in a statement.The two US officials, who asked not to be identified, told Reuters the girl was in the custody of US State Department officials in Iraq and would return to the United States, but did not say when.
An official said the girl, whose name was not mentioned, was the same girl that CBS recently conducted with her earlier this month near the Syrian city of Raqqa.
The girl said she was 15 years old and that her father, a supporter of the terrorist organization Da'ash, had brought her to Syria. The girl told the station she was from Kansas.
