The Prime Minister's Advisor for Financial Affairs Mohammed Saleh's appearance on Sunday that Iraq agreed to resume compensation Kuwait from 2018 until the end of 2021, while clarifying the mechanism of disbursement of compensation that will be through investment and installment.
"Iraq has agreed to resume the compensation of Kuwait starting in 2018 and through two routes, the first through the opening of investments, especially the investment of gas, and the second installment of the remaining compensation for four consecutive years," Saleh said in a statement.
He added that "Iraq reached an agreement to pay compensation for the invasion of Kuwait in 1990, amounting to 4.6 billion dollars in compensation for the destruction of its oil facilities and compensation for victims of war," noting that "the compensation will be through the first two routes, through investments in oil and gas, and the second through the installment of the remaining Of compensation over four years will start 0.5% of its oil revenues in 2018, and will increase annually until the end of 2021.
He explained that "the installment will start at 0.5% per barrel of oil revenues in 2018, 1% in 2019, 3% 2020, and the remaining will be paid in full in 2021.
It is noteworthy that the compensation of the war in Kuwait has been suspended since October 2014, due to security challenges and budgetary problems faced by Iraq in its war against Daqash.
