    [ltr]"The status of Jerusalem is determined through negotiations," the French delegate said during an emergency security meeting held to discuss the situation in Jerusalem. "The world wants a two-state solution and the risks of escalation."[/ltr]
    [ltr]While the American delegate said that "any solution between the Palestinians and the Israelis will be signed with American sponsorship."[/ltr]
    [ltr]"We do not recognize the transfer of the US embassy to Jerusalem," he said.[/ltr]
    [ltr]"Jerusalem is a symbol of the three religions," said Middle East envoy Nikolai Mladenov.[/ltr]
    [ltr]"We support the negotiations on the 1967 borders and Jerusalem as the capital of two states," said the British representative to the UN Security Council.[/ltr]
    [ltr]On Friday evening, the UN Security Council convened an emergency session to discuss the issue of Jerusalem following the US president's announcement that the United States recognizes the Holy City as the capital of Israel and the transfer of its embassy.[/ltr]
    [ltr]Eight countries have called for this emergency meeting, including Egypt, France, Italy and Senegal.[/ltr]
    [ltr]US President George W. Bush on Wednesday officially recognized the United States' recognition of Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, in a reversal of the policy of former presidents on the status of the holy city.[/ltr]
    [ltr]In response to the resolution, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres stressed that "Jerusalem is a final status issue that must be resolved through direct negotiations between the two sides on the basis of the relevant resolutions of the Security Council and the General Assembly."[/ltr]
