     Follow-up / Sky Press:

JERUSALEM (Reuters) - A "Judaic" plan, including the uncovering of the foundations of the western wall of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, has been unveiled on the grounds that it is the alleged "foundation of the temple," the newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported on Monday.

The plan aims to strengthen the "Jewish connection to Jerusalem," the paper said, warning that if the Israeli government agrees to it, it could provoke strong condemnation in the Arab world.

She pointed out that the project will extend for 5 years, according to internal documents of the "Israeli Antiquities Authority," which estimated the cost of the project about 250 million shekels (70 million dollars).

She noted that "the initial preparation of the plan was during a meeting of the Council of Ministers (Israeli) within the tunnels of the Western Wall, in May last; granted the Antiquities Authority 60 days to provide a detailed plan."

The Israeli Ministry of Culture allocated 10 million shekels ($ 3 million) to start work.

The Minister of Culture, Miri Regev, asked the Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, to fund the project from the reserve budget to be decided in the coming weeks.

The Arab member of the Israeli parliament, Abu Arar, said that Regev's plan was "racist and exposed the Al-Aqsa Mosque to real danger," warning that "these acts serve Western agendas and extremist Jewish organizations."

He called on Abu Arar to face this plan locally, globally and Arab, "and not to wait; because the Aqsa Mosque in real danger."

The World Heritage Committee of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), adopted last July, a decision to reject Israel's sovereignty over Jerusalem as an occupied Palestinian city.

The international organization condemned the excavations carried out by the occupation authorities, which targeted the Al-Aqsa Mosque.

In October 2016, UNESCO recognized that the Al-Aqsa Mosque was a pure Islamic heritage, which angered Tel Aviv, which responded by withdrawing its ambassador to the organization.
