An American court examines the fate of Iraqis who have been ordered to deport them

A federal court hearing in Detroit on Wednesday heard parties seeking to deport Iraqi citizens from the United States as part of the activation of the administration of President Donald Trump to remove residents with criminal records.
Judge Mark Goldsmith, who suspended the deportation of some 1,440 Iraqis in July, will decide whether to release 275 prisoners held by US authorities in several cities since then.
The authorities say the detainees committed crimes to be deported, especially after the Iraqi government agreed to receive them. Former US administrations allowed them to remain in the United States despite final orders to deport them.
Activists and opponents of the deportation of these Iraqis, many of them Christians and other minorities who fear being tortured or even killed, see if they are returned to Iraq. They have paid their debts to the community and are entitled to stay with their families.
The government believes that this federal court has no jurisdiction to consider the case, since it is the prerogative of an immigration court.
