MP Ali al-Badairi, warned of the infiltration of "terrorists and Baathists" to the political process through the parliamentary elections scheduled for 12 May next.

Al-Badairi said in a press statement that "Baathists and collaborators of terrorist organizations are trying to penetrate the political process by participating in lists suspicious of the upcoming elections."

He added that "the accountability and equivalence required today to scrutinize and investigate the identity of the names put within the political blocs to thwart their malicious schemes."

He pointed out that "the overall situation of the country is at a fragile stage, so it is easy to penetrate the political process by the conspirators on Iraq."

It is noteworthy that the Council of Ministers set 12 of next May, a date for the holding of parliamentary elections, while the President of the Council Haider Abadi, both the Parliament and the Electoral Commission, to take all necessary measures to ensure the process.

With the start of the new year, the Electoral Commission ended the process of registering political parties. It announced the participation of 204 parties in the upcoming elections and then completed the process of registering electoral alliances.

The names of people who had been sentenced to death and life imprisonment in absentia because they had left Iraq but had been included in the general amnesty were re-nominated for political re-election.
