Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Friday that he was "very saddened" by France's "completely wrong" position after Paris proposed mediation between Ankara and the Syrian Democratic Forces, the Kurdish Arab Alliance, which the Turkish army is fighting in northern Syria.
"I would like to stress that I was very saddened by the totally wrong approach of France on this issue," Erdogan said in a sharp speech in Ankara.
"Who are you to talk about mediation between Turkey and a terrorist organization?"
In another development, the Turkish president said that his country has begun preparations to clear the areas of Ain Al Arab, Ras Al Ain and Tal Abyad in Syria from the insurgents to the Iraqi border.
He said his country would also expel insurgents from Iraq.
He said Ankara had no intention of hurting soldiers from allied countries based in the region, but would not allow militants to move freely.
