The Arab League held an emergency meeting in Cairo today to discuss the latest developments in the city of Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip.
Saudi Foreign Minister Adel al-Jubeir, who heads the meeting, stressed that the transfer of the US embassy to Jerusalem is a step contrary to international law.
Al-Jubeir described the US decision as a "bias against Palestinian interests" and "a retreat in the peace efforts," referring to the broad international positions that reject it.
For his part, Arab League Secretary General Ahmed Aboul Gheit called for a credible international investigation into the killing of dozens of Palestinian demonstrators by the Israeli army at the border of the Gaza Strip, adding that the transfer of the US embassy to Jerusalem, which is occupied territory under international law, More tension.
Aboul Gheit condemned the transfer of the US embassy to Jerusalem, saying that Arab relations should be subject to a similar step of scrutiny and review.
In turn, Palestinian Foreign Minister Riyad al-Maliki said that 100 Palestinians have been killed since US President Donald Trump's decision to move the Washington embassy to Jerusalem, adding that the Palestinian Authority will continue to reject this move categorically.
Maliki suggested to the Arab countries to summon the collective of their ambassadors from Washington to consult, in response to the transfer of the US Embassy to Jerusalem, saying no harm in that.
He added that the American position gives Israel a cover to continue its crimes against the Palestinian people, calling on the international community to protect the Palestinian people and investigate the Israeli crimes, and urged the Arab world to act effectively to counter the repercussions of the transfer of the US Embassy to Jerusalem.[/ltr]
