(Reuters) - Iran has increased its shipments of sophisticated weapons to Hezbollah, including guided missile programs, through a suspicious flight, the Fox News network quoted US and Western intelligence sources as saying.

Intelligence sources said that an Iranian cargo plane belonging to Fares Qeshm landed in Damascus before arriving in Beirut, then headed to Doha on Wednesday evening and finally returned to Tehran on Thursday.

Fox News quoted the sources as saying that the Iranian cargo plane was carrying weapons components, including GPS devices, to manufacture precision-guided weapons in Iranian factories inside Lebanon.

The United States and Israel, as well as other Western intelligence agencies, have uncovered evidence that Iran is operating arms factories in Syria and Yemen, as well as Lebanon.

Last month, in his speech before the UN General Assembly in New York, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu presented photographs of what he said were three Hezbollah "secret sites" near Beirut International Airport, sites where the GPS components are assembled from Tehran.

Western sources told Fox News that the components of the weapons that were on the chartered plane from Tehran this week were heading to these secret sites of Hezbollah near Beirut airport.

"Israel is determined not to let this happen," said former Israeli military intelligence chief Amos Yadlin. "This is a source of concern, because if the Iranians are determined to build this delicate project with rockets, Ballistic missiles, and the Israelis are determined not to let this happen, we have a recipe for collision. "

Although General Yadlin was unable to confirm the last cargo flight from Tehran to Beirut, he is well aware of Israel's history of pre-emptive strikes. He was one of eight pilots on F-16 fighter jets who bombed the Iraqi nuclear reactor in 1981.

He served as head of Israeli military intelligence and helped plan the Israeli strike on the impending Syrian nuclear reactor in 2007.

Yadlin said the Iranians were building a massive military presence in Syria with guided missiles, precision ballistic missiles, drones and air defense, stressing that Israel would not allow Iran to repeat Hezbollah in Syria.

The Israeli army says it has carried out more than 200 air strikes inside Syria since last year, targeting Iranian arms shipments.

Iranian carrier Fares Qeshm has long accused Iran of transferring arms to the Iranian Revolutionary Guards and the Quds Force, led by General Qassem Soleimani.

Last year, the Trump administration imposed sanctions on Iran's Revolutionary Guards and the Quds Force.

Iran Airlines stopped operating in 2013, but resumed operations with the change of management in March 2017.

Among the new administration officials are three current leaders of the Revolutionary Guards: Ali Naghi Gul Barsta, Hamid Reza Bahlafani and Ghalam Reza Qasimi.
