The parliamentary legal committee on Thursday suspended the decision of the Prime Minister, Adel Abdul Mahdi, to direct deputies to divert their communications from his office to the ministries, while confirming that the directive "contrary to the law."
A member of the committee, Hussein al-Aqabi, told Mawazine News that "the official communications of deputies can not be restricted by law or custom," noting that "the parliamentary tradition indicates that the MP is entitled to address all state institutions."
"The institutions are concerned with answering the questions and questions of the deputies," he said. "There is no way to restrict or limit communications, and they should be answered by all levels, especially the directors-general."
