{International: Al Furat News} A US official announced on Monday that his country will not accept a deadline set by North Korea that ends late this year to obtain concessions from the United States in exchange for the resumption of the stalled nuclear talks.
Stephen Begon, the US special representative for North Korea, called in press statements, Pyongyang, to return to the negotiating table "immediately", according to the "Associated Press".
He said: "At this point, let me be very clear ... the United States does not accept this deadline."
He continued: "We are well aware of the possibility of North Korea carrying out provocative action in the coming days, and this behavior will not help in bringing about a lasting peace on the Korean peninsula."
Begun, who is visiting South Korea for talks with officials there, called on Pyongyang to sit and discuss instead.
He said: "Let me talk directly to our North Korean counterparts ... It is time that we get our work done ... We are here and you know how to reach us."
He warned that nuclear tests and intercontinental missile tests will continue unless Washington responds to his country's demands.
US President Donald Trump held a historic summit for the first time with the North Korean leader, on June 12, 2018, in Singapore.
At the summit, the two parties agreed to denuclearize the Korean peninsula and to establish a lasting peace in the region.
The second summit brought the two parties together on February 26 and 27 in the Vietnamese capital, Hanoi, but it failed to reach an agreement.
