United States: Arrest of man suspected of leading an Iraqi group linked to "Al Qaeda"

US officials announced on Friday that a man accused of killing two police officers while he was leading a group linked to "Al Qaeda" in the Iraqi city of Fallujah was arrested in the city of Phoenix, Arizona.
A statement by the Arizona judicial authorities said that Ali Youssef Ahmed al-Nuri, 42, was wanted in Iraq for deliberately killing two police officers in 2006.
The statement pointed out that an Iraqi judge issued an arrest warrant for Al-Nouri, and that the Iraqi government sent the US Ministry of Justice a request for his extradition, confirming that Al-Nouri was the leader of a group linked to "Al-Qaeda" in Fallujah that planned operations against the police.

The Justice Department sought an arrest warrant for al-Nuri, and the man was transferred to a Phoenix detention center on Thursday.
