    The head of the Parliamentary Planning Committee, Hazem Al-Khalidi, called on Wednesday (March 31, 2021) to backtrack on the decision to raise the dollar’s ​​exchange rate against the dinar, after "the government's admission of its negative effects."
    Al-Khalidi pointed out in a statement that "the government continues to insist on the decision to raise the exchange rate of the dollar, and the admissions it makes on its negative effects continue, including the response of the Ministry of Finance yesterday, which confirmed the existence of an increase in the prices of goods and foodstuffs as a result of the exploitation of some merchants as it claims and the government's inability to control prices as evidenced by it." The ministry’s request to do so continues, in addition to the report of the Central Bureau of Statistics of the Ministry of Planning, which acknowledged the existence of an increase in the prices of domestic and imported building materials.
    He added, "The last report confirmed an increase in the prices of bricks and cement by 16 percent for the month of February of this year, while the prices of reinforcing iron (shutters) increased by 48 percent, which is a significant increase registered as a result of the decision to raise the price of the dollar, as the Ministry of Planning itself says."
    He saw that "these confessions and the increase in oil prices confirm the absence of the need for the decision to raise the dollar exchange rate to burden it with the poor Iraqi citizen, especially with the government announcing in advance that the percentage of the poor has reached about 25 percent, equivalent to ten million poor citizens." Silence on such dangerous decisions taken by the interim government, and to move towards strict parliamentary measures to stop this neglect and economic disasters. "
